UGC Permitted University to kick off Online Degree Programs:

University Grants Commission (UGC) has Permitted [UGC Permitted University] the startup of online degree programs in 38 universities in India. The universities will be allowed to offer online programs as long as they follow the NAAC or NIRF ranking requirements as per the UGC directive. Primary, in the Union budget 2020, Hon`ble finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman had announced that India will allow the top Hundred Universities to offer grown online degrees. The commission had invited applicants from higher education institutions prepared to offer online for the academic year 2020 – 2021. 

As per the disclosure of UGC, “Each HEI was necessary to submit an affidavit for secure compliance to all the provisions of the University Grants Commission (Open and Distance Learning Programmes and Online Programmes) Regulations, 2020.”

UGC Permitted University online degree courses (Go ahead Online Degree Programs): 

The higher education regulator has accepted a wide variety of courses ranging from business administration to mass comm./journalism, liberal arts to data science.  Of the total universities allowed to offer online degree courses, 15(fifteen) are adjudged to be universities, 13(thirteen) state universities, and 3(three) central universities. Three (3) private universities including OP Jindal Global University, Manipal University, and Chandigarh University. State institutions like Kuvempu University(Karnataka), Mysore University(Karnataka), and Alagappa University (Tamil Nadu) will offer as many as 12(twelve) online degrees courses each, the highest number on the list.

Among other universities, central universities like Jamia Millia Islamia will offer MA in education and public administration while Jawaharlal Nehru University will offer MA in Sanskrit in online mode. Mizoram University, another central institution, will offer 4(four) online degree programs. 

Due to the pandemic COVID-19 Situation, UGC has already allowed up to 40% of a normal course to be offered online. This was decided to help students gain on in their studies and recently drafted a set of guidelines for blended learning that have been opposed by multiple teachers and student organizations.
